Samar Ansari, LPC

*Memorial office

Hi there, my name is Samar pronounced “summer,” just like the season. I am a licensed professional counselor with advanced training in play therapy and marriage and family counseling. In my years of practice, I have worked with kids, youth, teens, families, and couples with all types of backgrounds and various concerns. Some of my work experiences include working with individuals with anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, career-related concerns, parenting issues, and relationship challenges.

I have worked in many different job settings such as schools/universities, hospitals, and nonprofits, but this is my first time working in a group practice.

Some of my most memorable work experiences include the time that I worked in a youth center helping teens face many different issues ranging from managing relationships to applying to jobs and learning about finances.

Another memorable work experience was when working as a career counselor at Sam Houston State University assisting students with career planning and facing the pressures of entering the corporate world. The youth and teenage period are difficult to navigate, therefore having support can be crucial in creating good decision-making skills, establishing good mental health practices, and identifying support systems. Along with teens I especially enjoy working with children while implementing play therapy in our sessions. I find children to be resilient and adaptive. As a parent, I completely understand the need of providing your child with the most supportive and caring environment. I hope to be a factor in providing this for your child.

My Approach

I use a client-centered and multicultural approach when providing therapy. This translates into always wanting to meet the client "where they are" and be sensitive to each client's cultural identities while also acknowledging how those impact their experiences. I seek to build a relationship with a client that will help promote-self esteem and empower them to use their strengths and realize their potential.  I do my best in creating a space where my client feels equal, empowered, and supported. There is great benefit in the therapeutic relationship and I want for my clients to experience that when receiving therapy.  I always treat my clients with respect, empathy, non-judgment, and compassion. I believe in collaboration and working together in creating attainable goals and solutions.  I pull evidence-based techniques from different modalities to tailor a treatment approach that best fits your personal goals. I primarily draw from collaborative therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy.

I understand seeking therapy and sharing personal thoughts, concerns and problems can be very daunting. I wish to change that for you and help you feel comfortable enough to truly open up to where you feel like your most authentic self. I look forward to working with you and I sincerely hope that you gain immensely from our sessions together.

Outside of counseling in my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors, gardening, going on walks, working out, and playing soccer. I love spending time with my two energetic sons ages 2 and 5, my two cats (Truffles and Zoey) and my caring husband.
